Back on January 30, I wrote this Classic Rock Sunday post on The Cars, where I mentioned they’ve got a new album coming out. Since then, a couple clips from that album have surfaced, so I thought I’d do a follow-up and include the songs here.
Both tracks sound more like Panorama-era songs to me than they do the later more mainstream-friendly stuff. This one is called Sad Song:
The next one is called Blue Tip:
I must admit, I was a little concerned about this new album — not having been a huge fan of the band’s output post-Panorama and with the death of bassist/sometime lead singer Benjamin Orr in 2000, I wasn’t sure remaining band members Ric Ocasek, Elliott Easton, David Robinson and Greg Hawkes would pull it together, but I sure dig these two tracks.
The album, Move Like This, will be released on May 10, 2011, and here’s the cool part: it’s also available on vinyl. I’ve been planning to dig my turntable out of the closet and set it up, and I think a new Cars record might be just the thing to break it back in.
Here are links to pre-order the CD and the LP (damn, do I love saying that) on Amazon:
